The Fort St. John RCMP have re-opened Camarlo Park and the area behind North Peace Secondary School.

The area was closed Sunday morning after a Grizzly Bear had been spotted in the park.  According to Conservation Officers this bear had been spotted in the Beatton River Valley on Friday, after traveling in from Alberta.  The RCMP and Conservation Officers tried to bait the bear into a series of traps, but after attempting to do this for most of the day, they decided to shoot the animal.

Conservation Officer Nic Bacante says this bear had already been moved 2 or 3 times when it was living in Alberta.

It’s believed the male bear was 3 years old and weighed between 200 and 300 pounds.  The bear looked to be in good shape and had still been feeding on berries and not garbage.  The RCMP shot the bear four times at approximately 3:40pm.
