Clean-up initiatives planned for old ski hill in Taylor

There’s another illegal garbage dump in the Peace Region.

This time, it’s at the old ski hill in the District of Taylor.

Former Councillor of Taylor, Joan Lewis says she is getting fed up with the amount of litter and partying that goes on in the area.

The area is accessible by four-wheelers, and families use the grounds for camping.

But, Lewis says the grounds are being destroyed by excessive partiers and vandals. Lewis says the area is very similar to the lookout point on the south end of 100th street.

As for the clean-up, Administrator for the District of Taylor, Terry Johnston there’s not much Taylor can do.

The area is actually privately-owned by the people who own the old ski hill. Johnston says it’s disappointing that people are abusing the area.

Lewis says she’s taking matters into her own hands, and will be scheduling a weekend clean-up in the upcoming weeks.

She’s got Spectra Energy on board to host a barbecue for any volunteers who want to help out. To volunteer, call Lewis at 250-789-3134.
