Fort Hotel only property set for Tax Sale

The Fort Hotel property is the last one standing in the Fort St. John Tax Sale set for Monday.

A list was released in early September, with originally 19 properties up for grabs.  Since then, property owners have paid their delinquent taxes.

But, the old Fort Hotel property at 10004-100 Avenue remains at an upset price of $66,747.99.

The owner had until 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning to pay the back taxes. If the owner fails to do so, the property will go up for auction at City Hall at 10:00 a.m.

Now, payments from the successful bidder will be held in trust by the city for a period of one year. If, at the end of that year, the owner still has not paid the taxes, the City will make application to Land Titles to transfer the property to the purchaser. If the owner makes the payment, the bidder is then refunded the payment, plus interest to the date of redemption by the owner.
