This past weekend the RCMP’s Peace Region Traffic Services enlisted the assistance of four additional traffic officers to participate in a seat belt and impaired driving enforcement campaign.
Enforcement activities during this campaign largely included enforcement within Fort St John City limits as a change in strategy from regular highway patrol practices.
16 impaired drivers were apprehended, and 19 twenty four hour driving prohibitions, 81 seat belt violations, 39 speeding violations, and 60 various other motor vehicle act violation tickets or warnings were issued.
Impaired driving apprehensions in Fort St John total 192 to date for 2009. Alcohol is suspected and has not yet been ruled out in three of this year’s four fatal collisions in the Fort St John area.
