One of Fort St. John’s 2010 Olympic Torchbearers has been announced.

Calvin Osterlund from Fort St. John will be carrying the torch for 300 metres during the Fort St. John relay.

Representatives from the Fort St. John Royal Bank of Canada made the announcement on Wednesday.

To receive this honor, Osterlund pledged he would buy local products or foods whenever possible.

He says so far, buying local has been relatively easy. He says he buys fresh produce from the local Farmers Market.

And he says he has plans when winter rolls around…

He says his main goal is to continue buying Canadian products and food.

Osterlund says he is excited about the relay, because he has always wanted to be in the Olympics; now he gets to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Now, other local torchbearers will be announced in the upcoming months from various other sponsors.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will be held in Fort St. John on January 31st, 2010.
