The Fort St. John SPCA is warning residents of a scam going on in the city.

On Monday, the SPCA received numerous calls from residents who live near the North Peace Secondary High School.

Two male teenagers were canvassing for donations door-to-door. They told residents that the money would be going to the local shelter.

Witnesses say one male has spiky hair and dresses in punk fashion.

The other male was described as nicely dressed, with a shaved head and dark stubble.

Bev Gutknechet is an animal care attendant, and answered many of the calls on Monday.

Gutknechet says the SPCA and the RCMP are aware of this scam, and are asking anyone who has been approached by these individuals to contact the local RCMP at 250-787-8140.

Gutknechet is asking the community to always ask for identification, and check with the local authorities if you are suspect a scam.
