Here are a few photo’s from the 2009 Association for Community Living AGM and Community Living Awards.

The drum roll started and the audience went silent. Award presenters Cynthia Livingstone and Deloris Cooper opened up the envelope and announced Michael Fraser as the winner of ‘Lord of the Drama’ award.

Fraser ran up on stage, grabbed his award, and joyfully yelled, "I won, I won."

No, this wasn’t the Oscar’s; it was the 2009 Association for Community Living AGM and Community Living Awards, held at the Lido Theatre on Thursday night.

Local celebrities wore their best outfit and even walked the red carpet to the special awards gala.

Guests listened to the AGM, which included a brief annual report and president’s report. Special Projects Coordinator Cory Goodwin outlined some future projects she has planned for the association. She says she wants to set up a Share and Care meeting.

This allows people in the community to get together and share what it’s like living with a disability.

But, the awards glimmering in the background kept the guests excited for the main event.

The gala had everything one could want at an awards ceremony; lots of memories, a few tears, and plenty of laughs.

The large golden awards were handed out for numerous categories. Kevin Smith won Librarian of the Year, and danced a jig when he reached the stage. When Holly McDonald won Miss Fort St. John Beauty, she shrieked, and beamed a thankful smile.

Meanwhile, Goodwin says this year is set to be the best yet.

In October, the association is holding its annual ‘On the Vine’ event, which is an evening of wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres, and entertainment.
