Morrison looks back at Penticton Ironman

Former Blizzard Janelle Morrison continues to recover after a strong showing at last weekend’s Penticton Ironman Triathlon.

In her first crack at Penticton as a pro triathlete, Morrison finished third among all females, with a time of 9 hours, 49 minutes.  That breaks down into 1:05 for the 3.8k swim, 5:21 for the 180k bike, and 3:17 for the 42k marathon run.

If the grueling distance and scorching heat wasn’t enough to cope with, Morrison experienced a few challenges in year’s race.   She told Jon Zacks about them in a wide-ranging interview.

After finishing as the top amateur female in the 2008 Penticton Ironman, Morrison turned pro in 2009, though pro triathlon has proved to be a financially tough proposition.  She left teaching in the spring to focus full-time on her sport, leaving only prize-money and sponsorships to cover the bills.  And, as she mentioned in the interview, the bills for a pro triathlete can be pricey, after factoring in costs such as good nutrition, coaching, and travel.

Attached to this story is a list of costs that Morrison typically faces in her life as a professional triathlete.
