Sunday brings the Terry Fox Run to Fort St. John.
It begins at 1 o’clock, starting at the North Peace Arena. There are 1k, 5, and 10k distances available, and bicycles and dogs are welcome. Runners are encouraged to raise pledges, or just come out for a jog, in solidarity with the cause.
The annual nation-wide event raises money to find a cure for all types of cancer.
Terry Fox died of cancer at the age of 22, succumbing to osteosarcoma. At the time of Fox’s death, then-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau said:
"It occurs very rarely in the life of a nation that the courageous spirit of one person unites all people in the celebration of his life and in the mourning of his death….We do not think of him as one who was defeated by misfortune but as one who inspired us with the example of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity."
