Workshops aimed at helping local businesses

A series of workshops are penned in over the next couple of months, to help local businesses through the rough economic times.

Lynn Locher from the Fort St. John Employment Information Source discussed the workshops on Wednesday’s Issues and Answers.

Locher says some of the workshops will help employers locate and retain potential employees from the ‘Generation Y.’

Locher says on any given day, local employment agencies can see around 150 applicants looking for work.

So, Community Futures is holding a series of workshops on October 1st and 2nd. The workshops will be in the morning, and will help employers understand the younger workforce.

There will also be a meeting on November 17th at the Northern Grand from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The conference deals with leadership tactics during challenging times, and has a goal to help local businesses survive the economic downturn.

A variety of keynote speakers are scheduled and dinner is provided.

Locher says the workshops will also help prepare local businesses for the future.

A third workshop is called Succession Planning and it will provide information to businesses who are thinking of winding down in the next five years.

A lawyer and accountant will be available for questions on the mornings of December 3rd and 4th.

For full details, or to sign up for any of the workshops call Community Futures at 250-782-8748.
