Blizzards wrap up season

Pat Ferris won the Blizzard Club cyclo cross Championship on Sunday, with 4 laps completed in 33:42 minutes.  Roger St. Jean was second 35:15 and Gord ‘The Hammer’ Harris was third at 36:27.

Thirteen riders were on the start line on the North Peace circuit on a cool afternoon.   Gary Hilderman got a fast start and was first through the double sand trap with Ferris close behind.   The other riders had trouble with the sand and fell behind. ‘Hells Gate’ and the ‘Grande Canyon’ mazes both kept most of the cyclists on their toes.  Pat Ferris took the lead on the hill and continually pulled away to win the ‘Muddy Face Race’ trophy, while Gary Hilderman faded to 5th.

At 3 laps done Sam Keats had 34:23, Adam Currie 35:06, and Owen Giebelhaus 38:10.  Brandon Joice did 2 laps at 32:00.  Larry Joice did not finish due to a bad cold.

In Regina on Sunday, Blizzard Rod Lewis won the Provincial Gold Medal in Category 5 cyclo cross. Rod also won the cyclo-cross race the day before.   Unofficially, he is leading the ‘Sask Cup’ points for Cyclo cross.

Saturday night was the Blizzard Bike Club’s Annual Awards banquet. 50 people attended this event at the Quality Inn to give out trophies, awards, and enjoy the evening.

President Patricia Emery complimented the club members for volunteering throughout the season to make this year an excellent one for the club.  Thanks went out to the Gambles for setting up the dinner, Barb Polehoykie for doing the trophies, and Lois Harris for looking after the Silent Auction.

Some of the Trophy winners were:
