City buys Fort Hotel property in tax sale

The City has announced that it has purchased the Fort Hotel property.

On Monday morning, the property was the only property remaining up for auction in the annual tax sale at City Hall. The city will pay $72,000 for the land. It had an upset price of $66,747.99.

Now, the transaction cannot be finalized for one year. This gives the owner proper time to pay the delinquent taxes, and interest.

So, if the owner steps in before this time next year, the city purchase price will be returned to the city, and the property will once again go to the original owner.

There’s no word yet on when the property will be cleared of the debris from the fire that destroyed the Fort Hotel earlier this year.
