The Grand Opening for the Enerplex has been delayed until September of next year.
The City made the announcement on Tuesday. The Grand Opening was initially slated for November 27th of this year.
In September, the province announced that the Enerplex had qualified for the Build Canada Grant. This means the city will receive $2.5 million in funding from each senior level of government, providing it kicks in another $2.5 million of its own.
Because of this extra funding, City Manager Dianne Hunter says the City has decided to create an outdoor civic space at the Enerplex, delaying the grand opening.
Hunter also says when the City applied for the grounds program grant, it had included the parking lot in the application.
Hunter says in addition to that, the grant will allow the city to dedicate a piece of public art to the founders of the Kids Arena.
Meanwhile, the City has announced that the third floor of the facility will be opened this December 1st. Starting in December, the walking/running track, now known as the Northern Vac Track, will be available free of charge to the public.
Hunter says it’s still unclear when the second floor oval will be opened. Construction continues on the second floor, and the City will release the completion date "in the near future."
