It should be an exciting season for the Senior Flyers.  At least opening night made it seem that way.

The Flyers opened their 2009/2010 season on Saturday night with an overtime win over the Grande Prairie Athletics.

Tyler Loney scored the overtime winner, while Jeff Fast, Adam Horst, Ashley Langdone, and Aaron Scheppers also scored.  Horst impressed in his Flyers debut, adding two assists to his first period goal.  Troy Hunt posted the win in goal.

The Flyers led the game 4-1 midway through the third, but allowed the A’s back into the game before winning it in O.T.  Shane Mudryk scored a pair for Grande Prairie, with Brennan Jones and Mike Mohr scoring singles.   The Athletics outshot the Flyers 35-32, with David Larson recording the loss for G.P.

The game also saw a couple of fights, with Ian Munro squaring off against Dean Watson, and Matt Shuya facing Scott Taje.

The Flyers begin their ‘AAA’ exhibition season next weekend, when they play against the Stony Plain Eagles on Saturday night (Oct. 24), and against the Lloydminster Border Kings on Sunday.
