The man driving the blue truck had died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Preliminary police investigation determines that the man from Fort Nelson was traveling southbound, when he lost control of his blue truck as he was negotiating a turn.

Officers say the roads had been icy.

The blue truck slid into the path of the green tractor trailer. That vehicle was from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

Police say the investigation continues, and Highway 97 remains closed until further notice.

Mounties expect the highway to reopen around 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Motorists are advised that there are no detours available, and to plan accordingly.
