Minor hockey weekend results

The Fort St. John Kinsmen Atom Flyers continued their dominance on Saturday, with a lop-sided win in Spirit River.

Despite playing with a short bench, the Atom Flyers defeated the host Rangers 21-0.  Every player on the Flyer’s roster contributed at least one point, while Craig Grimes and Coleman McCaffrey shared the shutout.

The Atoms begin their All Peace League regular season next weekend when they host the Grande Prairie AA Atoms at the Enerplex.

The Ross H. MacLean Pee Wee Flyers also took on Spirit River for a pair of games this weekend.

On Saturday, the Flyers posted a 6-2 win in Spirit River, with a solid team effort.  Lane Delfs posted the win in goal for the Flyers.

The Peewees failed to achieve the same intensity on home ice on Sunday, losing the return game 7-4.

Ricky Bateman led the way offensively with a four goal weekend, while Jeff Bochon chipped in two goals and two assists.

And, the Knights of Columbus Bantam Flyers played in a ten-team tournament in Quesnel.  The Flyers earned a 1-2 record in the round robin, placing them in a playoff round matchup with Salmon Arm.  Despite a good battle from the Bantams, they lost the game 3-1.

Overall, the Flyers were led offensively by Jayton Wieler, who notched five goals and three assists.  Some ‘outstanding’ goaltending was provided by Ty Helgason and Sean Gjeneres.
