Peace Region hardest hit in new EI numbers

New stastistics show the number people collecting employment insurance in BC from June to July was down slightly this year, to 92,550.

That’s a monthly drop of 480, and it works out to a decrease of 0.5 percent.   However, overall from last year, the percentage collection rate increase across the province is 104 percent.

In addition, the Peace Region is among the hardest hit, with the increase from last July to this July, at 117 percent in Dawson Creek and 157 percent here in Fort St. John.

By comparison the increase in Prince George was only 51 percent and in the Northwest the jumps in Kitimat and Prince Rupert, were 45 and 39 percent respectively.
