Midway through the second, Aaron Scheppers got the Flyers onto the scoresheet, when he scored his first of two goals on the night. David Alexander and Bryce Novak chipped in second period goals, and the Flyers led 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The teams swapped goals in the third period, with Ryan Lizotte and Mike Lefley (his second) scoring for the Mustangs, and Luke Middleton and Kip Noble (empty net) responding for Fort St. John.
Troy Hunt earned the win in goal, stopping 30 of 33 shots, while Donny Lloyd continued to impress in a Flyers jersey, chipping in three assists.
The teams combined for 110 minutes in penalties, including one fight between Ian Muno and Riley Jebb.
