HST impact on School Districts

BC school districts are learning more about the impact of the Campbell government’s harmonized sales tax.

A study by the BC Association of School Business Officials finds the public school system could be hit, with an annual tax cost increase, of 24 million dollars.

President David Green says, that will be a major concern, if the government doesn’t agree to a 68 percent HST rebate… [asset|aid=2105|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=e692adff6d38a821507060e2282f954d-Green_1_Pub.mp3]

At issue are school district expenditures such as school supplies, student transportation, and contract services, all of which at the moment are provincial sales tax exempt.

As things stand now however, come July first they will be subject to the HST.
