A brief look at some of Fort St. John’s minor hockey results from the weekend of October 30 – November 1:
The Formula Powell Midget ‘B’ hosted the Dawson Creek Midget B Canucks on Saturday.
After a scoreless first period, Brent Loewen scored a powerplay goal early in the second period that would hold up as the winner. Loewen’s line continued to press, with Beauden Lancaster adding an insurance goal, with John Apsassin picking up his second assist of the game. Goaltender Ryan Bueckert was strong in net holding on for the shutout.
The Kinsmen Atom Flyers opened their regular season Saturday morning at the Enerplex against the Grande Prairie ‘AA’ Atom Vipers.
Fort St. John’s Teagan McMullen opened the scoring with an unassisted goal late in the first period. But, from there on out, it was all G.P., with the Vipers winning by a final score of 14-2.
The Bantam ‘B’ Flint Flyers opened their weekend with a 9-5 win in Dawson Creek on Saturday.
The Flyers notched three goals in each period, with Josh Lucas and Kayne Shallow registering a pair each.
On Sunday, the Bantams took to Grande Prairie, where they lost a fast-paced game by a score of 9-6. Lien Miller-Jeanotte led the way offensively on Sunday with a hat-trick.
And, the FSJ Petroleum Association Tier II Midget Flyers competed in a provincial calibre tournament in Kelowna.
The Midgets suffered an opening game loss to the Tri-Cities Americans, after an empty-net goal made it 5-3.
On Saturday, the Flyers suffered two more losses, in two more tightly-fought 5-3 games.
Showing signs of quick improvement, the Flyers won their final game 4-2 over Aldergrove.
Players of the games in the round robin were Kyle Bakstad, Jordan Gies, and Wyatt Anderson. The team got strong goaltender from both Bakstad and Travis McLean throughout, while offensive leaders were Brett Young and Marvin Yahey, who notched five points each.
