The Fort St. John Royal Canadian Legion is still counting coins, but it looks as if this year’s poppy campaign was a huge success.

At the city council meeting on Monday, Councilor Dan Davies said the drive brought in more than $30,000, that’s up $5,000 from last year.

He says he believes that the ongoing wars are inspiring community members to donate a bit more than they are used to.

Davies says the legion has yet to release the official amount raised from this year’s campaign.

All the proceeds raised through the poppy campaign will stay in the area to support the Royal Canadian Legion.
