A Grande Prairie man has been charged after the death of a two year old.
On Tuesday December 1, 2009, at 11:30 p.m., Grande RCMP and Grande Prairie EMS responded to a 911 call at a residence on the southwest side of the City. A 2 year old female with extensive and critical injuries was transported to the QE II Hospital in Grande Prairie. She was subsequently transported to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton on Wednesday December 2nd after 3:30 p.m., where she was placed on life support. The victim was removed from life support at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday December 3 and died shortly thereafter. An autopsy was completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office on Friday December 4th.
A 25 year old Grande Prairie man, Herbie Giroux has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. He was arrested without incident at Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment on Friday and remains in police custody. Giroux’s next court appearance is scheduled for Monday December 7th, 2009 in Grande Prairie Provincial Court.
The RCMP have not released any details into the relationship between the victim and the man charged. They have also not said how the victim died.
