Huskies Fill the Bus Sunday

The Huskies are getting prepared for one of their biggest weekends of the year.

After hosting the Grande Prairie Wheelers on Friday, and the Peace River Navigators on Saturday, the pups head out around the community on Sunday afternoon for their annual ‘Fill the Bus’ campaign.   Starting at around 11:30, players and volunteers will fan out across Fort St. John, seeking donations to pass on to the Salvation Army.

Over the past couple of years, the event has brought in more than 17,000 pounds of food per year, for distribution to those in need.

Huskies past-president Carolyn Krauss says any non-perishable items are welcome, but high-protein foods like salmon, tuna, and peanut-butter are particularly useful.   "One area that often is forgotten is the tiny little people" she adds.   "Baby food, diapers, all of that kind of stuff people are in need of."

It’s a high-profile event for the Huskies, who also host their annual ‘Skate with the Huskies’ on December 27th.  "It’s my fourth year doing it" says Huskies forward Kyle Porter. "I really enjoy it, because you help out a lot of people around town."

Porter and the Huskies won’t be working alone, as other individuals and teams in the community have pledge their support.  The North Peace Eagles Ladies hockey team, as well as the Fort St. John Petroleum Association Midget ‘AA’ team are two teams that have confirmed they will be helping out.

Anyone else interested in giving a hand can call Carolyn Krauss at 250-785-3195.

Anyone who can’t be home on Sunday, can also take a donation down to the North Peace Arena that day, or to Saturday’s game against Peace River.
