Huskies good effort not enough in Whitecourt

The Huskies put in a valiant effort, but came up short in Whitecourt on Saturday night.

After a sensational first 40 minutes, the Huskies trailed the Wolverines by only one goal, scored short-handed by Layne Brown early in the first.

The Wolverines pulled away on a series of quick goals in the third, from Elias Lechance (2) and Wayne Quaife.  Late in the third, Brighton Campbell broke Ryan Demharter’s shutout, in a 4-1 Whitecourt win.

“I thought it was a pretty good effort tonight, especially for the first two periods” said Coach Bob Kalb after the game.  “I think we kind of ran out of gas a little in the third.  Not a bad effort considering the guys we were missing tonight.”

The Huskies were playing without a handful of important players, including defencemen Ryan Stickel and Jesse Disher, and Kole Norris and the MacKinnon brothers up front.  “It was pretty tiring” said Brighton Campbell after the game, though he says the Huskies will have plenty left in the tanks for Sunday’s game in Slave Lake.  “Oh yeah, lots left, we’ll take it to ‘em.
