Snowmobiler dead after crash near Grande Prairie


 A 21 year old Grande Prairie man is dead after the snowmobile he was operating drove into a wire fence in field off 132 Avenue, 4 miles east of Grande Prairie between Range Roads 54 and 55 at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday December 4th.

The deceased was at a gathering at a residence and witnesses state he was considering purchasing a snowmobile from another male at the party, and wanted to test drive it before purchasing.

A tow rope with a snow board attached was hooked onto the back of the snowmobile which was ridden by a 25 year old Grande Prairie man. They left the group and were gone for a period of time.

Reportedly, the deceased did not see the fence and drove into it. The male on the snow board returned to get help and several others returned with him to the scene. First aid was applied and Emergency Medical Services were called to which ambulance and fire responded. The 21 year old man was transported to hospital and pronounced dead.

The 25 year old man was not injured as a result of the incident. Police investigation is ongoing.
