Although Fort St. John didn’t make the top ten list for Gamestown 2010, one community in the Peace Region did.
Dawson Creek will be vying for the title along with other communities including Houston, Princeton, Smithers, Quesnel, Salmon Arm, Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna and Coquitlam.
More than 200,000 votes were cast by British Columbians from November 1st until January 4th. Two communities from each of the five different population categories make up the final 10.
The gold, silver and bronze medal winning communities will receive cash awards of $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000, respectively, to put toward upgrading a local sport or healthy living facility.
Winning communities will also receive 2010 Olympic and Paralympic tickets.
A panel of GamesTown 2010 celebrity judges – Dr. Rhonda Low of CTV, Dr. Art Hister of Global, and Olympians Steve Podborski, Simon Whitfield and Nancy Greene Raine – will now choose the three winning communities.
The top three will be announced later this month. For more information on Gamestown, visit www.gamestown2010.ca
