Dawson Creek has been awarded silver in the GamesTown 2010 competition.
The city was beat out by Princeton B.C.; a community of less than 3,000 people.
As a result, Dawson Creek will receive $50,000 to put towards the upgrade of a sport or healthy living facility. The South Peace community will also get two pairs of Olympic tickets and two pairs of Paralympic tickets.
GamesTown 2010 challenged communities around B.C. to submit stories reflecting healthy living and the Olympic Spirit. Between November and January 4th, almost 200,000 votes were cast by British Columbians to determine the top 10 communities.
Despite dozens of submissions from residents, Fort St. John did not make it in the top ten standing.
After the online voting stage, the ten remaining communities were judged by a GamesTown 2010 celebrity panel.
In the end, Princeton took home gold, Dawson Creek was awarded silver and Kamloops got bronze. For more information, visit www.gamestown2010.ca
