Flyers host Canucks on Minor Hockey Night

The Senior Flyers are hoping to harness some energy from their young fans.

On Saturday night, the Flyers host the Dawson Creek Senior Canucks, for Minor Hockey Night.  All minor hockey players wearing their jerseys will get free admission to the game.

The Flyers seem to be slowly finding their groove again, after a mid-season slump, and they’ll be looking to avenge a 7-6 overtime loss to the Senior Canucks on Jan. 14th in Dawson Creek.  After Thursday’s 5-2 win in Hythe, coach Adam Brash said he was happy with the way his team had battled for the win.  "We’re getting back to what makes the Flyers successful, and that’s playing with a whole bunch of heart and energy, and being physical and sticking up for each other, and doing all those little, tiny things that are necessary to win hockey games."

If an old-time rivalry against Dawson Creek isn’t enough to get players and fans excited for the matchup, a few familiar faces on the Senior Canucks roster should make the tilt a little more appetizing.  Dawson Creek natives Kip Noble, Adam Loncan, and Dustin Kersey have all joined their home-town team this season, though they are all still part of the Flyers Allan Cup plans, thanks to the affiliation between the clubs.  As well, defenceman Arlo Hadland has joined Dawson Creek, in an attempt to help out Dawson Creek, while getting Hadland more ice-time in key situations before April.

At 10-5-1 on the season, the Senior Canucks are proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the NPHL.  With two wins against Fort St. John already this season, the tale of the tape suggests Saturday’s tilt could be another great chapter in the age-old rivalry.

Saturday’s game starts at 8:30 p.m. at the North Peace Arena.
