Local RCMP Constable thanked by P.E.I. family

By Christine Rumleskie

It’s not so often RCMP members get publically thanked for a job well done.

But just recently, Constable Jessica Veysey with the Fort St. John RCMP received a thank-you note, which was posted on the B.C. RCMP website.

It all started when the local RCMP investigated a man for a criminal offence in the city. The man’s mother lives in P.E.I., and was concerned about her son’s mental health.

So, officers requested that the man undergo an evaluation.

The man was sent to a mental-health treatment facility, and Cst. Veysey maintained thorough contact with him. Cst. Veysey says the man has since made significant progress.

In the open thank-you letter, the man’s mother wrote, "If Cst. Veysey hadn’t taken him under her wing I feel he would have been killed by now."

Cst. Veysey says she was humbled by the family’s appreciation.

Cst. Jessica Veysey has been with the Fort St. John RCMP Detachment for around five years.

Here is what Marj (the man’s mother) wrote about Cst. Veysey on the B.C RCMP website:

I recently have been dealing with Cst. Jessica Vesey in Fort St. John. She was a tremendous help to me regarding our son. Our son was living there and we live in PEI. He took a mental breakdown and got in with the wrong crowd. If Cst. Vesey hadn’t took him under her wing I feel he would have been killed by now. I can’t thank her enough for what she has done for me and our son. He is now in a mental hospital undergoing treatment. – Marj.
