Pimm’s Production Flyers Report
The Pimm’s Production Atom Flyers travelled to LaCrete and High Level for a pair of All Peace games this past weekend. On Saturday against La Crete, the Flyers were defeated 7-6. The Flyers started slow, falling behind 4-1 and were not able to make up the early deficit. However, they did fight back to make it a close game in the end. Tristan Nielsen led the flyer offense with 3 goals and 1 assist; Aiden Craig-Steele chipped in for 2 goals, 2 assists; Travis Domeij added a lone marker. Konnor Sawyer and Cameron Callison contributed an assist each.
On Sunday, the Flyers came out strong against the High Level team, taking an early lead 2-1 after the first period. Unfortunately, they were outplayed and outshot 20-9 in the second period, allowing High Level to score 6 goals. The Flyers went into the third, down 7-4. They played a strong third period but it wasn’t enough as the game ended 11-7 in High Level’s favour. Aiden Craig-Steele and Tristan Nielsen led the FLlyers with 2 goals, 2 assists each; Adam Melnyk who also had 2 goals played a very strong game ; Keenan Gallagher added a goal and an assist. Other assists went to Cameron Callison and Spencer Prieur. Next weekend the flyers play a pair of games at home against the High Level.
Midget B Flyers Report
The Formula Powell Midget B Flyers hosted the Savanna Stars on Saturday January 16th and posted a 2-1 win. Scoring for the Flyers were Beauden Lancaster and Tyson Chambers with John Apsassin picking up both assists on the goals.
Flyers outshot the Stars 40-29, with Craig Wozniak picking up the win in net and was named Flyers player of the game. The Formula Powell Midget B Flyers will be heading to a tournament in Mackenzie Jan 22-24th.
FSJ Midget Petroleum Association Flyers Report
The Petroleum Association Midget Flyers split a weekend home and away series with Fairview to continue their grip on first place in their division. The Flyers returned to action after almost a month layoff with a home game on Saturday against the Fairview squad. The local boys found themselves down by two goals before the game was thirty five seconds old and were not able to recover with a 6-4 loss to the visiting team. Leading the Flyer’s offence was Brett Young with a goal and an assist. Other goal scorers were Blair Karasiuk, Dayne Pedersen and Michael Bacso. Tyrel Fenton chipped in with an assist.
The Sunday return match in Fairview was a different story as the Midget Flyers came out with a much more determined effort to down Fairview by a score of 8-6. The Flyer’s gritty effort was led by the trio of Young, three goals and one assist, Karasiuk, one goal and three assists and Fenton with three assists. Also contributing to the offence were Marvin Yahey with two goals and Cayle Bell and Pedersen contributing single markers. Bacso, Brennan Stragier and Jordan Harder chipped in with helpers.
The Flyer’s next league action to continue their quest for first place is Jan 30 9:45 am at the Enerplex and Jan 31 9:00 am at the Rec. Centre. Both games are against Dawson Creek.
Kinsmen Atom Flyers
The Fort St. John Kinsmen Atom 10 Year Old Flyers travelled to Grande Prairie this weekend for tournament action in the Grande Prairie Lloyd Head Memorial Tournament.
In Game One the Flyers faced off against their All Peace rivals, the Dawson Creek Canucks and took the lead in the first period with goals by Teagan McMullen and Thomas Pope. The Kinsmen Flyers controlled the game ending in a 6-2 win with additional goals netted by Austin Crossley, Damin Kraeleman, and Daniel Forrest.
Game Two on Saturday, Jan 16th had the Kinsmen Atom Flyers play the Fort McMurray Tigers. Craig Grimes and Coleman McCaffrey played strong games between the pipes only allowing one third period shot to slip in, granting the Flyers a 11-1 final in this second game of tournament play. Jacob Lang led the scoring for the Flyers with 4 goals and an assist, but was supported in the win by Aaron Kosinsky, Jeridyn Loewen, Jesse McCarthur, Adam Bowie, Nick Malloy, plus Kraeleman, Pope, McMullen, and Forrest who all scored or assisted with the victory.
On Saturday afternoon the Flyers played a hard fought game against the Whitecourt White Foxes. This was the second game of the season that the Kinsmen Flyers have met the Foxes in tournament play and hopes were high for a win. Despite their best efforts and determined game play the Flyers could not pass one by the White Foxes goaltender and ended round robin play with 0-8 loss.
The two wins and one loss put the Flyers on the ice against the Peace River Colts, Sunday January 17th to compete for the third place trophy. The Flyers and Colts were evenly matched in the opening half of first period play with Jacob Lang, assisted by Daniel Forrest matching the Colts first goal in the opening period. After 13 minutes of second period action, the Flyers netted there second goal unassisted by Teagan McMullen, answered quickly by the Colts. With 3 minutes left in the period Thomas Pope gave the lead back to the Flyers, assisted by Joel Bourgeois. With a 3-2 lead the Flyers were able to hold the Colts from the win even after a third period exchange of goals. Flyers fourth goal was netted by McMullen and assisted by Damin Kraeleman. The Kinsmen Atom Flyers proudly accepted the Lloyd Head Memorial Third Place Trophy and are preparing for their next All Peace regular season game versus Grande Prairie A Atoms on Saturday, January 23rd at 3:45 at the FSJ Enerplex.
