Second fatal accident on Highway 43

A bizarre accident in the Alberta Peace has left an unidentified 44 year old Grande Prairie woman dead.

The Beaverlodge RCMP says the victim lost control of her pick-up and it left Highway 43 west of Hythe, just before five o’clock yesterday afternoon.

However, she managed to get out of the vehicle and was standing on the highway talking on her cell phone when she was struck by another pick-up driven by a man from Devon, Alberta.

The injured women later died in Beaverlodge hospital.

Police believe deteriorated road conditions likely contributed to the collision and to the woman’s vehicle leaving the highway.

The RCMP investigation into the incident continues, but to date there’s no word of any charges.
