CR – shields on bombings 1

Sergeant Tim Shields with the B.C. RCMP says police continue to investigate a property in rural Hythe, Alberta, in connection to several pipeline bombings in the B.C. Peace. EnCana Corporation’s pipeline infrastructure has been targeted by the ‘EnCana Bomber’ since October 2008. Shields says police arrested the suspect at around 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning in Grande Prairie. Shields confirms the man was arrested without incident. The suspect has yet to be identified by police, but a former lawyer for Wiebo Ludwig confirms the property is owned by the convicted pipeline bomber. Ludwig was convicted in 2001 for sabotaging numerous oil and gas wells in Alberta’s Peace Region. In a statement released on Friday, Shields said the man arrested is 50 or 60 years of age. Ludwig is around 69 years of age. Yet, he says police cannot identify the suspect. Shields says there are residents currently on the property, and that so far, everyone is being co-operative. He says investigators are searching for any clues that may be on the property that would link the suspect to the EnCana Bombings. In July ’09, the EnCana Bomber sent an open letter to EnCana, stating that the bombings will get a lot worse by October of ’09. The last bombing occurred on July 4th, ’09, near Dawson Creek. Nobody has been injured in any of the bombings.
