Cellphone ban starts today

Beginning today motorists using handheld cellphones and other devices while driving on BC roads will face fines of 167 dollars for talking, typing or texting.

Now the BC Automobile Association is hoping the Campbell government extends a public information campaign on the provincial legislation, which has banned the use of such devices.

Mr. Acres says there are many stories suggesting a significant number of drivers across the province have been ignoring the ban, since the one month penalty free January first implementation.
