Dozens of youngsters packed into City Hall on Monday, to support Guiding and Scouting in Fort St. John.

District Commissioner Margaret Farquhar approached council with a request to proclaim February 21st to 28th as Guide-Scout Week in the City.

Scouting and Guiding is celebrating 100 years in Canada, and the local Girl Guides group just passed its 80th anniversary in Fort St. John.

The two groups plan to hold events throughout the week, including an international dinner at the Legion.

The proclamation must have brought back fond memories for Councilor Lori Ackerman, who wiped away tears while making the proclamation. Ackerman says she was once a Guide, and has a lot of respect for what both organizations do for young kids.

Council voted unanimously to support the motion.
