A local organization with strong roots in the community is coming to an end.

The Independent Foresters Service Group started in 1973, with 500 community members.

Members within the local Foresters Cheechako Branch #1498 purchased life insurance or annuity products, and thereby were granted membership to the Independent Foresters Service Group.

Then in 1996, the Foresters Group made its first donation to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation, and the group has been donating since. Including a final $2,600 donation, the Foresters have donated a total of more than $45,000 to the Hospital Foundation, towards the purchase a variety of hospital equipment.

Their final donation has been directed towards the purchase of a portable ultrasound machine for the emergency department in the current Fort St. John hospital.
