A fresh new face will be making people feel better at the Northeast Aboriginal Business and Wellness Centre.

Nurse Practitioner Diella Schatz is in the middle of a new agreement between Northern Health and the N.E.A.B.W.C.

The two stakeholders signed a lease agreement on Thursday that allows Schatz to offer her services in Fort St. John’s N.E.A.B.W.C.

Aboriginal Centre Spokesperson Paulette Flamond says the location is perfect, especially with the new hospital migrating from the downtown core. She adds that the N.E.A.B.W.C. is already used by many aboriginals in the city.

Schatz is qualified to treat issues ranging from common colds, to complications from diabetes. She isn’t a doctor, but consults with doctors in the area for assistance.

Her services will be available to all people, not just aboriginals.

Schatz says there’s still a lot of work to do, like ordering supplies and getting settled-in.

In a culture where traditional healing is the norm, Schatz says she realizes people will have questions about her work.

But Northern Health Spokesperson Angela De Smit says that’s where public education is key.

Flamond says the long-term goal is to eventually get a team of healthcare professionals working out of the N.E.A.B.W.C.
