Fort St. John wins national recognition

The City of Fort St. John has received a 5 star rating and won it’s category in the annual National WinterLights Celebration.

In a ceremony held Saturday night, the City was given a 5 star rating in the 7,500 to 30,000 population category and was name the category winner.

According to the WinterLights program, Fort St. John is setting itself up to be the go to place for winter pleasures as well as a model for environmental initiatives.

The judges also picked Fort St. John because of our outdoor facilities, indoor recreation facilities, and festivals like High on Ice and Spirit Week.

The District of Chetwynd also picked up a win at the event in the 1 to 7,500 population category.  The District was recognized for green space trail system.

WinterLights Celebrations is the winter edition of the popular Communities in Bloom program and encourages all Canadians to join in their local community events and activities, and to experience the beauty and thrill of winter.

The WinterLights judges visited Fort St. John on December 6th and 7th.
