The RCMP now confirms it does have a home in Dawson Creek surrounded and has been there since about five o’clock yesterday afternoon.

According to an eyewitness, the Mounties have closed off about a six block area around 99th avenue and are still not allowing people who live inside it to return home.

Police say an armed man barricaded himself in the home yesterday but, if they know why, they are withholding the information.

They do believe he’s the only one in the residence and they’ve brought in a negotiating team, to try and persuade him to surrender.

Parkhill Elementary School, in the general vicinity of the home, is open today but traffic to and from it, both vehicular and pedestrian, is being directed around the cordoned off area.

We will have more information as it becomes available.  If you have any information about this incident e-mail contact@energeticcity.ca or call 250-787-7100.  You can also e-mail photos and video to contact@energeticcity.ca
