Workers push forward on hospital project

By Christine Rumleskie

A leading player in Fort St. John’s new hospital project says production is ahead of schedule.

Executive Director of Health Care Projects, Gerry Green, discussed the new Fort St. John Hospital project on Moose FM’s Issues and Answers on Wednesday.

HCP is a proponent in the P3 partnership for the new hospital. The company was established 14 years ago in the United Kingdom, and has since spread to Canada.

Green says the partnership benefits the community, because quality work needs to be done to ensure longevity of the building.

As the weather continues to get warmer, workers are placing steel beams in the ground to form the skeleton of the hospital.

Green says the project is around 30 days ahead of schedule.

Once the walls are erected, Green says there’s going to be a lot of work going on inside the building, especially during the winter months.

He says HCP was attracted to this particular project because of its uniqueness, and importance to the community.

He says the project’s overall objective is to take advantage of Fort St. John’s topography, and have the building blend in, rather than stand out.

Green added the hospital will also need to focus on the unique needs of the City and surrounding area, and planners will achieve that by working with the residents who will be using the facility.
