A Fort St. John man is dead following a one-vehicle accident on Highway 77.

The accident occurred sometime between 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Police say James Keil was negotiating a southbound curve when he lost control of his 2006 GMC pick-up truck.

Officers say the vehicle flipped, and Keil was ejected from the vehicle. Police say they believe he was not wearing his seatbelt, and Keil was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggests that a combination of speed, insufficient tire tread and slushy roads contributed to the crash.

The Fort Nelson Traffic Services Unit and the B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate the crash, with the assistance of collision resconstructionists.

Anyone with more information on this accident, including a specific time it may have occurred, is asked to call the Fort Nelson Traffic Services Unit at 250-321-0460.
