The BC Northern Real Estate Board says first quarter housing sales were significantly higher this year than in 2009.
It says sales through March 31st in 12 listed member communities, totalled 887 properties worth more than 180 million dollars.
That compares to 589 properties worth about 117 million in the first three months of last year.
In the Fort St. John area 121 properties worth nearly 32 million dollars changed hands, as compared to the 2009 totals of 80 properties worth nearly 18 million.
The average selling price of a Fort St. John area residential detached home, as of the end of last month, was slightly more than 328 thousand dollars.
That’s up nearly 55 thousand from the same time last year, and is by far the highest price among the 12 listed communities.
The next closest is just over 250 thousand in Williams Lake, followed by Prince George at about 247 thousand.
At the opposite end of the scale, is Mackenzie with the lowest average price, at just under 84 thousand…about 75 thousand less than Kitimat.
The only other Northeast member community, with more than 10 residential sales in the last three years, is Fort Nelson…where the average price is just under 240 thousand.
