Province Wide Drought Concerns

Province-wide drought concerns the result of low snowpacks and a warm winter weather have already forced unprecedented water restrictions in Northern Okanagan.
Al Cotsworth with Greater Vernon Water says the region has recorded its lowest ever reservoir levels.
That’s forced officials in Vernon to limit watering of lawns and gardens to once a week.
This past winter was the warmest in the Northern Okanagan in 110 years, and Mr. Cotsworth says officials are hoping for a very wet late-spring and summer.
With less than one millimeter of precipitation in February, and also less than one so far in April, you can put local area farmers and ranchers in the same category.
However, there could be some relief on the way later this week, with rain the forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Normally the local airport recceives about 19 millimeters of precipitation in April, and 88 during the first four months of a calendar year.
However, so far this April we’ve officially received point three millimeters this month, and with just five days to go the four month total is only about 58 millimeters…with more half of that recorded in the six day period beginning on March 18th.
