The Peace River Regional District dealt with a couple of messy properties on Thursday.

The board met in Fort St. John, where directors reviewed two letters complaining about two separate litter-ridden properties in the South Peace.

Ken Barrett’s letter complains about a property on the Old Edmonton Highway.
His letter includes photos that show old cars, hot water tanks and scrap materials scattered across the property.

The land is designated an ‘agricultural land zone’ by the Agricultural Land Commission.

Director Evan Saugstad said because the land is being treated as a light industrial zone, it should be taxed as such. So he suggested that both B.C. Assessments and the ALC investigate the property.

General Manager of Environmental Services, Bruce Simard says the PRRD will also voice the board’s concerns to the property owner..

In the end, the board unanimously decided to initiate an investigation on the property.

Meanwhile, a separate letter was written by Bonnie Jones of Pouce Coupe. She expressed her frustrations about a messy property in Rolla. She wrote that she’s very disappointed that the Regional District has no bylaw in place to force residents to clean up their properties.

But, the PRRD decided to respond to the letter, saying that if residents want such a bylaw, they will have to put a formal request in to the PRRD.
