With a host of local and provincial politicians on hand…including both the current and former energy ministers, Blair Lekstrom and Senator Richard Neufeld, as well as the current Peace River North MLA, Pat Pimm…Premier Campbell said just about exactly what everybody thought he would say today, at a news conference at the WAC Bennett Dam…

Hudson’s Hope Council took an official stance of opposition to the dam in May of last year…and then in August, the Peace River Regional District denied its support, for a request from BC Hydro to acquire crown land for the project.

Critics of the proposed dam claim it will be an environmental disaster, because it will result in the flooding of about 46 hundred hectares of prime agricultural land…57 percent of which lies in the province’s agriculture reserve.

Today’s news conference was not open to the general public, and many of those hoping to attend were reportedly stopped by police.
