The March/April precipitation total in the Fort St. John area was slightly more than average, with 44 millimeters recorded this year, as opposed to a two month norm, of 40.2 millimeters.

 

The mean temperature in the region was also slightly higher than average in both months, at about 5 and half degrees in April, and minus one the previous month.

That compares to norms of plus four last month, and minus 4 in March.

However, there’s concern these trends are about to change, and speaking to CHNL in Kamloops, climatologist David Phillips has predicted warm and dry late spring and summer weather for much of the province…

He notes the predicted June gloom has already hit parts of southern BC, and most of the province will begin warming by the middle of this month.

That’s right in line with the latest seven day local area forecast, which calls for high temperatures to rise above the seasonal norm of 15 degrees by Tuesday.

There’s also no precipitation predicted for the next week, and at the moment we’ve only had slightly more than one millimeter, in a month in which we receive on average about 40.
