Its a winter wonderland in the Peace Region today.

Most areas of the Peace have been blanked by a few centimetres of snow following a storm on Friday.  In Fort St. John over 4cm of snow has fallen since Friday and over 9.4mm of rain.  In Dawson Creek Environment Canada doesn’t keep track of snowfall, but over all they had over 36mm of precipitation.  Dawson Creek received the most precipiation in the province on Friday.

We still could see more snow today as the snowfall warning is still in effect for the entire BC Peace Region.  A vigorous low over Northern Alberta is producing an unseasonably cold northeasterly flow over the Peace region this morning. Fort St. John and eastern sections of the B.C. Peace River region are expected to receive an additional 2 to 4 cm before the snow tapers off near midday.

The snow has caused the Fort St. John Mixed Slow Pitch Society to delay the start of the annual Ice Breaker Tournament to Sunday.  Teams will be notified of the changed schedule.  If you know of anything else that has been affected by the weather, email [email protected]

All the major roads in the region are listed as having slushy and slippery section.  For more on up to date info on roads in the region, click here.

BC Hydro has had a busy night with several power outages in the BC Peace.  It looks like they will have an even busier Saturday with over 4,000 customers without power.

There are currently two large power outages in the Fort St. John area.  One is east of the Old Fort Road, south of Bueckert Ave and North-West of the Alaska Highway.  The outage will not be restored until 12pm today and is affecting over 1,900 customers.

The other major outage is also in the Fort St. John area and affecting over 1,200 customers.  This outage started at about 5am and won’t be restored until 10pm tonight.  This one is listed as being east of the Old Ford LP, North of Johnstone Road.  There are 1,200 customers without power.

There are over 60 power outages in the region at this time, the majority are small outages affecting 5 or less people.  For updates on all the outages, click here
