In the Alberta Peace, no injuries were reported in an explosion and fire early Friday afternoon at an oilfield water injection facility.

 

A spokesman for the Energy Resources Conservation Board, says it happened east of Debolt, when a thin layer of oil in two salt-water holding tanks ignited.

There were workers on-site at the time of incident, shortly before 2.30, but they were in the far corner of the lease.

Board investigators from Grande Prairie are scheduled to meet today {June 14th} with personnel from the company that runs the lease site…Hunt Oil, which was purchased two years ago, by XTO Energy, based in Fort Worth. Texas.

A company spokesman says there was no sour gas released so there was no public impact and no air quality issues.

At last report Workplace Health and Safety was waiting for more information to decide if its officers will investigate.
