A forest fire north west of Prespatou has put that area under evacuation alert.

Although there are no residences in the area, the Peace River Regional District has still put the area on evacuation alert.   The alert affects an area with the boundaries of the CN railway on the east, PDR 241 on the south and the PDR 104 (73 Road) on the west and north.   The evacuation alert includes the Silver Lakes area.

The Beatton River fire started on Sunday and has already grown to over 350 hectares in size.   At this time the Ministry is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Lee Shanks from the Oil and Gas Commission says the the closest oil and gas facility is over 5km away from the fire.   One sweet gas well site in the area has already been shut-in as a precaution and is not threatened at this time.

Smoke from the fire is visible at times from Fort St. John.  For a detailed map of the area under an evacuation alert, download the pdf file attached below.
