Fort St. John has lost a special member of our community.

Ross H. MacLean passed away early Friday morning at the age of 92. Mr. MacLean and his family arrived in the summer of 1919 in Fort St. John and in his time here he has made huge contributions to the community.

Mr. MacLean was one of the founding fathers of organized minor hockey in Fort St. John. He was a driving force behind the construction the Kids Arena and helped to start Minor Hockey in Fort St. John in 1955 with Braden Herron.

MacLean was also an active member in the Fort St. John Rotary Club since 1963 and the Fort St. John Rotary RV Park in Charlie Lake is named in his honor.

Earlier this year, the community paid tribute to Mr. MacLean, as he was chosen as the final torchbearer in the Olympic Torch Relay in Fort St. John. At the time Mr. MacLean was overjoyed with the opportunity.

Mayor Bruce Lantz is a long time friend and says this is a great loss to the community.

Ross H. MacLean is survived by his wife Irene and his children and grand children.

At this time details about a memorial service have not been determined.
