Local area precipitation numbers

In just the first four days of July the local area airport has recorded nearly half as much precipitation, as it did in all of last month.

3.8 millimeters yesterday puts the unofficial July total at 6.2, and Environmnent Canada says the total for all of June was only 14.3 millimeters.

That compares with 41.2 in June of last year, and is just 20 percent of the monthly norm of 71.4 millimeters.

June was also the fourth month with a below average total in the first six months of the year.

The exceptions were March and May with totals of 34.2 and 46.6 millimeters respectively.

Together they now represent about 63 percent of the year-to-date total, which is 128.8 millimeters.

That’s 70.4 millimeters below average, and 51.2 less than last year’s six month total.

The July norm is 83.2, but this year in order to just get back to an annual average pace, by the first of August, the local area will need to record 153.6 millimeters this month.
